Back from New York

Well, our trip to New York was so much fun and so very exhausting at the same time. Here's how it all went down...

Sunday we arrived on a red eye at 6:30 am and checked into our room for a few hours sleep. Fortunately, we both slept pretty well on the plane and took a nice nap before we left. We booked a tour of Manhatten's gourmet food shops through the Fancy Food Show that left at 10 am, then booked a cheese tasting class at 3 pm, which was great. We got to sit and I got to put my feet up (they were beginning to look like tree stumps!) Sunday night we ate at a restaurant called Le Jardin (http://www.lejardinbistro.com/), which was just lovely. HOT, but simply divine French food and service!

Monday was a wonderful breakfast at Balthazar (http://www.balthazarny.com/), which is also a great French restaurant. I had buckwheat crepes filled with ham and gruyere and Rob had the English Breakfast (beans, sausage "bangers", toast, egg and tomato-Healthy!). Then we went to the food show from 10 am to 5 pm. It was pretty much power walking the whole time! Tasting all kinds of cheese, vinegars, crackers and meeting with people we order from and making new contacts for products. It was also a fun and exhausting day! BTW, the legs weren't so bad on Monday, maybe tree branches instead of stumps!

Monday night we ate dinner with our friend Spring at an amazing French restaurant (have you caught a theme here?!) called Provence (http://www.provencenyc.com/). Turns out she knows the chef, so we got extra special treatment and it was amazing!

Tuesday morning we met up with our neighbors Tara and Robert from here in Denver. They both live in NY now but still own the home next door. We went to Little Italy and spoke to shop owners and ate great Vietnamese sandwiches, rhubens, pickles, candy, gelato, cheese and so much more. But, we were walking all day!
We had to pick up our tickets for David Letterman at 2:30, then go back to the hotel and get ready because the show ended at 5:30, but our reservation at Babbo was at 6:00! David Letterman was fun- Sienna Miller and Michael Cena were on, so no "big" stars, but it was still a great way to experience another part of NY.

Babbo was alright. The food was great, but the service was oh so bad. Sarah, take note! Food in a restaurant can be the best thing you've ever eaten, but if the service is bad, that will be the only thing you remember and the first thing you tell your friends!

Wednesday we checked out of the hotel and ran around with our friend Spring from San Francisco. We haven't seen her for 7 years!! It was so much fun running around to different food markets and cheese counters.

We also went to Salumeria Biellese, which is the place where The Truffle gets all our cured pork products. It was by far the highlight of the trip. We got a tour of the small facility and then had lunch where the chef just sent out piles of food! Three salumi plates, two plates of pasta and dessert plus a bottle of wine. The chef kept coming out to talk with us about food, Italy, his travels- it was wonderful!

Then, our flight was three hours sitting on the runway waiting out the rainstorm that we wished had happened while we were melting in the city! But, we got home safely and had a great time.

Surprisingly, on the front porch was our crib and changing table- in boxes of course! Thanks Dad and Kathy!! Let the assembly begin!!

OK! Enough blathering! I've gotta get dinner started for when Rob gets home! We're having Kasha from a recipe I learned from the other Karin Lux! (Thanks for the cheeseheads, Karin and Sonny!)

Love you all... Karin
